Public Works

The City of Cedar Rapids’ sustainability initiative, iGreenCR Forestry,  partners with MidAmerican Energy and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources-Bureau of Forestry to provide trees to Iowa residents who are customers of MidAmerican Energy.

The “Plant Some Shade” program makes it easier for residents to join the iGreenCR team and plant trees on their property.  Trees planted on private property can help reduce a home’s cooling bill in the summer and increase property values.  By working as a team and planting trees on both public and private property, the city and residents can help Cedar Rapids become a greener community. The Plant Some Shade Program is a partnership initiative funded by MidAmerican Energy and administered by the Iowa DNR - Bureau of Forestry and the City of Cedar Rapids Forestry Program.

MidAmerican Energy customers in Cedar Rapids are eligible to purchase trees for $30 each. Tree purchase is initially limited to two trees per household to ensure all customers have an opportunity to purchase trees.
